Communicating the sustainability of tanneries - The ethical claim “We recover our hides/skins from the food industry"
The ethical "claim" mentioned in the title is promoted by UNIC and verified in the tannery by ICEC through traceability schemes. It has been created with the aim of allowing tanneries to communicate in a good, clear and simple way that the raw hides/skins used in their processes have been recovered from the food industry. Through this tool all the interested operators can promote some essential aspects of tanning sustainability to customers, consumers and public opinion: the circularity of the raw materials and the related enhancement of a by-product, which, in the absence of tanning, would be treated as a waste.
